Starting April 1, 2025, new regulations will limit the prescription and dispensation of dressings listed on the reimbursable products and services list (LPPR). This change is part of a new decree aimed at reducing waste, protecting the environment, and controlling healthcare expenses.
The affected items include silver dressings, compresses and cotton, fixation and retention means, dressing sets, and other types of dressings.
Clinical Evaluation Requirement for Prescription
From April 1, 2025, prescriptions must be based on a clinical evaluation of the wound conducted by a qualified healthcare professional. This professional should be capable of guiding the patient and monitoring the wound’s healing process. The prescription must specify:
– The category of dressings or compresses;
– The necessary quantity of products;
– The size;
– The recommended frequency of renewal;
– Any other details deemed necessary by the prescriber, such as the precise and complete commercial name of a dressing item, its absorbent and/or adhesive nature, etc.
Limitations on Initial Dispensation
Starting April 1, 2025, the initial dispensation of dressings will be limited to a 7-day supply. After the treatment period covered by the first dispensed package, the pharmacist can renew the dispensation upon the patient’s request, according to the needs and within the treatment duration specified on the prescription.
